CAUGHT IN A MASSIVE TRAFFIC JAM

Last night, my hubby (Yan) , daughter (Adek) and I were on our way to Kuantan. We planned to stop at Temerloh R & R for Maghrib. Unfortunately, we were caught in a massive traffic jam, just after the exit into Temerloh, about 2km from Sg Pahang. Seeing the traffic was not going to be moving for a while Yan turned off the engine. Many others followed suit. Some even walked towards the river to find out what was holding up the traffic.

While waiting, the 3 of us started theorising what the cause could be. We agreed that it must be a serious accident since there were ambulances, policemen on trucks, cars and motorcycles and MTD personnel in various vehicles passing by.

Yan suggested that the accident must have happened on the bridge, and I added....and the bridge collapse! My imagination does tend to run wild at times.

Not being able to go anywhere, not being able to do anything.....that's the very moment you need to go somewhere and do something! Adek needed to answer nature's call while I suddenly felt hungry.

Almost two hours later, the traffic started to move...at a very slow pace. We were on the emergency lane, but not on purpose. We were forced to be there to make way for the ambulance. As to why the ambulance didn't use the emergency lane, just beats me!

Since we were on the emergency lane it looked as if we were jumping queue, but we were not....not purposely that is.

Soon, more police cars drove by on the emergency lane....and a few other vehicles followed! These other vehicles were jumping queue on purpose!

The traffic flow was diverted about 500m from the scene of the accident till after the Temerloh R & R. At the scene of the accident, we saw a very battered vehicle being lifted and many people watching. Some of them were probably passengers from a bus seen stranded just before the scene. Soon afterwards we passed by another vehicle being towed. Probably it was also involved in the accident.

Since we were not able to stop at Temerloh R & R, we had to do so at Gambang for Maghrib and Isya'. We couldn't stop for dinner since we had to be at UIA before 12. We just bought a few snacks and drinks.

This morning I manage to find out what actually happened from here.

REFLECTIONS

When caught in a traffic jam we should
  • be grateful that we are not involved in the accident that has caused the traffic to come to a standstill

  • be patient because it takes time to set up traffic diversion

  • appreciate the effort put in by all concerned in getting the traffic to flow again
