Dr Mahathir Mohamad: The Racist Card
I totally agree with TDM. I find it very irritating when my students are not able to communicate in the National Language, either with their peers or teachers. When I was studying in Liverpool (thanks to DEB), I got to know a Chinese from Mauritius. She spoke English and French only. Another Chinese from Thailand spoke English and Thai. Even their names identify them as being from the respective countries. Yet, those from Malaysia have nothing to identify them as being originated from Malaysia. Their names are either Chinese or English (!), and they are not fluent in the National Language. The same goes to the Indians. How can you claim to belong to a country when you do not embrace what the country represents?

Malay Language has less international value compared to English and Chinese. We need to have a good command of English in order to do trade with Europe and America. We also need a good command of Chinese in order to do trade with China and Taiwan. We do not trade so much with the Malays because the Malays have weak buying power on the products we can offer.
How common the language is being used universally is usually determined by the economic value of the language. The stone age people initially developed language for the sake of communication convenience and economic value, not for the sake of ethnic love. Please build up your own buying power first before you make a complaint that people are not speaking your language!
How to build up the personal buying power? Working hard and working smart are the solution, not the protection of racist affirmative action.
Always remember that there is no free lunch in this world. If you don't work hard and work smart, you are bound to live in the sorry state of abject poverty. When the Malay-dominated government cannot offer any financial aids to the Malaysians of Chinese origin and Indian origin, then this group of non-Bumiputera Malaysians will have to resort to foreign market in order to earn a living. Why waste so much time on the Malay Language if this language will not do us any good in bringing up our living standards? In fact, the Malaysians of Malay origin should also spend much more time like you in learning either English or Chinese. Only the bilingual people will find a better opportunities to improve their living standards than the monolingual people.
Please do not let the racist pride blind you from seeing the economic value of both English and Chinese!
