Tenggol Island here we come!

By the time we got to the jetty, the others were already there.

I was quite anxious upon seeing the boat. Its much smaller than the one I took to Langkawi from Kuala Perlis. It could carry about 30 passengers.

The boat ride was very challenging. It felt as if the boat was going to break into pieces whenever it was tossed up and down on the choppy sea. I thought that I won't be able to survive the ride. Surprisingly I was OK!

I was very relieved though once the island was in sight about 40 minutes later.

Getting off the boat was another challenge for me. There's no jetty!

We headed to the restaurant where we were required to fill in liability forms. It seems that the resort had to fork out quite a substantial amount of money when sued by the family of a visitor who met with a tragic accident. The victim was a stowaway on the island!

Breakfast time was just over when we got to the island. Luckily we bought some food in Dungun. Nora, Adi's (Yan's friend) wife, gave us some 'nasi lemak' and 'nasi dagang'. We helped ourselves to the hot drink which is free flowing at the restaurant.

After breakfast we headed to our chalets which front the beach.

The group of youngsters were given chalets on the hill slope.

Yan and I took unit no. 2 whilst Yana and Adek took no.3.

Each unit is quite spacious. We didn't really need two separate units, but we were given two anyway.

Next, into the sea.......the water is so clear that you can see the sea bed.....and the sand is as fine as castor sugar!!

Yana and Adek showing just how clear the water is.

We stayed in the sea till it was time for lunch.

Lunch was rice accompanied by fried 'ikan kembong' in oyster sauce, prawn 'sambal' and stir fried mixed vegetable.

It was too hot to be in the sea. We chose to have a siesta.

Adek went for tea on her own. The rest of us would rather continue with our siesta!

In the sea again till it was time for dinner.

This was our dinner....briani rice, chicken, beef and vegetable salad.

Chit-chatting with Adi and Nora.

According to the two there are Vietnamese graves on the island. Some Vietnamese seeked refuge there. Once on the island they burned their boat because they did not want to be sent back to Vietnam. They finally died of starvation!

Tenggol Island beckons......

I've always wanted to go for a holiday on an island resort. Yan mentioned that his friend, his classmate in SEMSAS, runs a resort on Tenggol Island, Terengganu. I've never heard of the island but I've always been game to try new things. So, I suggested that Yan makes enquiries and reservations.

After checking with Yana and Adek to choose suitable dates for the trip, it was finally decided that we'd go on the 5th, 6th and 7th of June.

The week before the school holidays had been pretty hectic. On Monday the 1st I was supposed to conduct a tutorial class for a group of form 3 students.

Since I was not feeling well, I couldn't go to school. I went to see the doctor and was diagnosed to have hypertension and asthma. My bp was 145/96!....and asthma? I felt even more sick after seeing the doctor...not of an illness...but more due to the diagnosis and the bill! The doctor prescribed tons of medication...pills for hypertension, pain killer, allergy, antibiotics, and asthma and a Ventolin inhaler. All these and the consultation fee cost RM75.

Never one who is disciplined at taking medications, I only took the pills for hypertension, solely out of fear of getting a stroke. The headache did subside slightly, but I was still worried that I might not be fit enough for the trip.

When Thursday came Yan, Yana and I left for Kuantan at about 12 pm. We stopped by Taman Melati for lunch. The food wasn't that good. On the way to Kuantan my head was still aching.
The journey to Kuantan took slightly longer because we were stopped for speeding!

We stopped by Kuantan to pick up Adek from UIA.

Then we procceeded to Dungun, Terengganu.

On the way, we stopped by a surau for Zohor and Asar.

By the time we got to Dungun we still couldn't find a suitable place for the night. After driving around, we decided to have dinner first.

We went to a modest eatery which fronts the sea. The food was acceptable. We enjoyed the cool sea breeze.

While having dinner, I called one of the inn, of which information I obtained from Terengganu Tourism Board's website. I was informed that the place had one vacant room for 4, and it cost only RM90.

We managed to find the place. It wasn't much. But then we only needed a place for the night. The bed was comfortable enough and the bathroom was reasonably clean.

The next morning we got up very early because we had to be at Kuala Dungun jetty by 9 am.
It turned out that the inn that we stayed in is also run by the family which runs the resort on Tenggol Island.
Read more account of the trip here and here.
To be continued........

Let's get this road bully !

What this road bully did is most appalling. Let's all get him and put him behind bars where he belongs. His driving licence should also be revoked. He is a menace to society and should not be allowed to drive.

Look out for a green Avanza WRW 8402.

Tenggol Island...the place I'd rather be

Today is the first day back from a most blissful holiday on Tenggol Island (sigh...). How I miss the island!...more report with pictures to follow. I'll have to wait for Yana to download all the wonderful photos of the island.

In the meantime I'll continue with the unpacking and washing the dirty laundry....loads and loads of washing up to do! (sigh.....)...and my headache has also made a comeback!
